Pair of traditional, hand-carved low chairs with woven leather seats and from the Swat Valley region.

Partial tag on left chair indicates origin in Peshawar, Pakistan. Date unknown, but likely early 20th century.

The chairs feature different yet complementary carved floral and geometric motifs, turned wood legs, and mortise and tenon construction with a twisted leather cord at top and patina and wear consistent with age. Can be used as low table seating or for meditation.

Joint connecting seat to back on left chair is loose when moved (see video), but sturdy when resting on the ground and could likely be fixed with a shim. Minimal breakage to leather noted on seat of left chair and cord at top of right chair.
